Description
Handle with Care: Preserving Your Family Treasures
Jackie Hoffman Chin, lifelong artist and fine art conservator | Thursday, Jan. 22 • 10-11:30 a.m.
In this hour and a half workshop participants will learn:
- How to identify paper-based documents, photographs, and works of art on paper
- How to date these materials
- Safe handling of these materials, avoiding harm to delicate items
- How to semi-permanently house and store these items using acid-free materials, or micro environments
- Conservation of these items and where to purchase types of storage: Boxes; binders; plastic enclosures, paper enclosures, laminates, framing
- Art conservators, what do they do and when to call an art conservator
- Digitizing your collection. What the heck does that mean?
All participants will go home with their own personal white gloves for artifact handling, and samples of archival envelopes, plus a worksheet to help in determining how to plan for dispersing their collections (passing down to a family member, versus donation to charitable organizations).
