Description

Genes, Epigenetics, and the Microbiome: Who’s Really in Control?
Jill Jones & Michele Clark, Ph.D. | Thursday, April 30 from 10-11:30 a.m.
Genes matter—but they are not destiny. In this presentation, you’ll learn how DNA, epigenetics, and the gut microbiome work together, what is fixed, and what can change in response to diet and lifestyle.

Rather than revisiting familiar nutrition advice, this class focuses on recent advances in biology that help explain how genes are regulated and how microbes influence health. We’ll examine what probiotics can—and cannot—do, the emerging roles of postbiotics and microbial metabolites, and why fermented foods may affect health in ways that go beyond nutrients alone.
